The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has turned down a request by the Computer-Based Test Centre Proprietors Association of Nigeria (CPAN) to meet with its newly appointed Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, citing existing commitments.

SaharaReporters reported that the decision has stirred reactions among some owners of accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, with operators debating how the association should engage the examination body over issues affecting their businesses. Some members have called for stronger coordination among proprietors and a more organised approach to addressing their concerns.

According to a letter dated August 31, 2026, obtained by SaharaReporters, JAMB said its dealings with CBT centres are carried out directly with individual accredited operators under its established procedures. The response followed CPAN’s August 12 letter congratulating Aina on his appointment and seeking a courtesy meeting.

While acknowledging the association’s request for discussions on possible areas of collaboration, the Board said it could not grant the proposed visit at the time. JAMB, however, reaffirmed its commitment to engaging accredited CBT centres and other stakeholders through its existing channels to safeguard the credibility, security and efficiency of its examination processes.

The response has prompted calls within CPAN for the association to strengthen its structure and mobilise its members around issues such as operating costs, service charges, candidate allocation and the terms governing CBT centre operations. Some members also urged the leadership to convene state representatives, while others referenced legal efforts to address broader questions surrounding the relationship between centre proprietors and JAMB.

The development has placed renewed focus on how CPAN will coordinate its members and pursue collective concerns involving accredited CBT centres, particularly as operators seek clearer engagement with JAMB on issues affecting their businesses.
