Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has authorised the release of N3.659 billion to settle pension, gratuity and death benefit obligations owed to retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state and its local government councils.
According to Channels Television, the latest payment is expected to benefit 1,339 people under both the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), based on information from the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki.
Of the approved sum, N515 million will go to 210 local government retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme, while N3.144 billion has been earmarked for 1,129 beneficiaries enrolled under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The CPS beneficiaries comprise 402 retirees from the Kaduna State civil service and another 727 from the local government councils.
With the latest approval, the Kaduna Government says its total pension-related payments since Governor Sani assumed office in May 2023 have reached N21.455 billion, covering 9,683 beneficiaries.
Maiyaki said the continued payments form part of the administration’s financial reforms aimed at reducing outstanding pension liabilities and creating a more sustainable system for meeting the state’s obligations to retirees.
“Pension payment is not a favour; it is an obligation to our retirees and the families of deceased public servants,” Maiyaki said.
