The families of police officers who lost their lives in active service, alongside personnel injured in accidents, have received N34.3 million in insurance benefits from the Kano State Police Command.

The Command said a total of 62 beneficiaries received cheques amounting to N34,309,073.70 under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.

The cheques were presented on Wednesday at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, by the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.

The beneficiaries comprised next-of-kin of deceased police officers and personnel who sustained injuries in accidents, bringing financial assistance directly to families affected by deaths and injuries suffered in the course of police service.

Bakori said the payment was part of the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, stressing that the sacrifices made by officers who died in active service would not be forgotten.

According to him, although financial compensation could not replace the lives lost, the benefits represented the Force’s solidarity with families left behind by the deceased officers.

The Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to manage the funds prudently, particularly by directing them towards the welfare and education of their children.

He also assured the families and injured personnel that the Command would continue to pursue the prompt payment of legitimate entitlements due to them.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malama Safiya Abdullahi Adamu expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Kano Commissioner of Police for the intervention.

She also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased officers and the speedy recovery of those injured in the course of their duties.
