The Kebbi State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down the abductors of a High Court judge, Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza, following his release after eight days in captivity.
Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, 2026, and regained his freedom on August 3, according to TVC News, which cited a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
The police confirmed the judge’s release following verification from his family and the state Ministry of Justice. The command also disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom but maintained its opposition to ransom payments.
Investigations are ongoing, with the police working alongside other security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. The command has urged residents to provide useful information that could assist the investigation, assuring them that all submissions would be treated confidentially.
The police also commended members of the public and partner security agencies for their cooperation during the period of the abduction. Residents with relevant information were asked to contact the command’s control room on 09039911876 or 07081074395, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property across Kebbi State.
