Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns over the ethnic composition of appointments to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that President Bola Tinubu has favoured people of Yoruba origin ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to The Sun, the media entrepreneur expressed his concerns during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday night.
Momodu also challenged the perception that Tinubu’s political interests align with those of the Yoruba, insisting that people from the President’s ethnic group were not necessarily supporters of his administration. He described Yoruba voters, particularly in Osun State, as politically discerning and unwilling to offer unconditional support to any politician.
Using Osun as an example, he said voters backed Governor Ademola Adeleke because of his performance and could turn against him if he urged them to support Tinubu.
He further argued that economic hardship had affected Nigerians across the country, regardless of their ethnic or regional identities, adding that the Yoruba were experiencing difficulties similar to those faced by people in the Northwest, Northeast, North-Central, Southeast and South-South.
