Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that removing Iran’s current leadership is the only way to eliminate what Israel considers a major nuclear threat, escalating his rhetoric against Tehran amid renewed concerns over its nuclear ambitions.
Netanyahu made the remarks on Wednesday, October 21, while addressing graduating military officers at a ceremony in Israel. He accused Iran of seeking to rebuild its nuclear programme, warning that the development posed a serious security concern.
The Israeli leader also alleged that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was following the path of his late father and had taken a decision that further heightened tensions. Netanyahu described the move as having “pulled the pin,” suggesting that the situation had reached a dangerous stage.
Insisting that diplomatic or other measures would not be sufficient, Netanyahu argued that the Iranian government itself must be removed to address the threat.
“There is only one way to remove this threat: toppling the regime in Iran,” he said.
The statement signals a hardening of Israel’s position towards the Iranian leadership, with Netanyahu presenting regime change as central to his country’s efforts to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear capabilities.
However, Netanyahu’s remarks represent Israel’s position on the issue, while his allegations about Iran’s nuclear intentions remain claims that require independent verification.
