The Nigeria Clean-Up Initiative is targeting more than 1,000 participants for a street clean-up walk in Uyo on November 27, as it partners with the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) to promote environmental sanitation.
The initiative announced the planned exercise during a courtesy visit to the agency’s chairman, Obong Prince Ikim, during which it presented him with an Award of Excellence for his agency’s waste management and environmental sanitation efforts.
Led by its Akwa Ibom State Coordinator, Anietie Effiong, the delegation said the proposed walk would recognise progress in environmental management and encourage greater public participation in keeping the state clean.
The exercise will begin at Ibom Plaza, proceed through Wellington Bassey Road and terminate at Government House, Uyo. Youth leaders and other residents are expected to participate.
The initiative commended Governor Umo Eno for his administration’s environmental policies and programmes, while acknowledging AKSEPWMA’s role in implementing measures to improve sanitation and waste management.
It urged the agency to sustain its efforts and deepen public engagement in environmental protection.
Responding, Ikim expressed appreciation for the recognition and the proposed partnership, attributing the agency’s efforts to the support provided by Governor Eno.
He welcomed the planned walk, describing public participation as important to complementing government interventions and promoting a cleaner environment.
Other officials present during the visit included the agency’s Administrative Officer, Ikpim Eteyen; Head of Legal Department, Barr. Andrew Umoh; and members of its Media and Public Relations Unit.
