The Nigerian Army has honoured retiring personnel of the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre following 35 years of military service, commending their contributions to the country’s defence establishment.
Punch reported that the soldiers were celebrated at a send-off ceremony organised at the centre, where the Infantry Corps Commander, Major General GM Mutkut, acknowledged their dedication and sacrifices during their years in service.
According to information shared on the Nigerian Army’s X account on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, said Mutkut assured the retirees that their service to the Army and the nation would remain valued.
The commander urged the outgoing personnel to remain committed to national development after leaving active service. He also encouraged them to prioritise their health, care for their families and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Mutkut also acknowledged the challenges their families endured during years of prolonged separation occasioned by military duties. He urged the retirees to use the transition to civilian life to reconnect with their loved ones and strengthen family relationships.
At the ceremony, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, Colonel MB Abdullahi, and the centre’s Chief Clerk, Master Warrant Officer Abbas Muhammad, praised the retiring soldiers and wished them success in their future pursuits.
The outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major, Army Warrant Officer Promise Gargea, expressed gratitude to God, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the leadership and personnel of the Infantry Corps Centre for their support throughout the soldiers’ careers.
Gargea said the retirees would continue to uphold military values and serve as worthy representatives of the Armed Forces in civilian life. Mutkut presented gifts to the personnel in recognition of their service, with officers, soldiers and family members in attendance.
