Nigeria’s leading football stars continue to carry substantial financial value in the European transfer market, even as the Super Eagles face disappointment over their recent World Cup qualification record.
The latest figures from Transfermarkt put the combined market value of Nigeria’s five most expensive players at €170 million, equivalent to roughly N275 billion.
Victor Osimhen — €65m
Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen remains at the top of the list with an estimated market value of €65 million.
Although his valuation has dropped by €10 million, the 27-year-old remains the only player in the Turkish Süper Lig valued above €60 million.
Osimhen’s performances for Galatasaray have been central to his standing. He has recorded 62 goals and 16 assists in 76 appearances for the Turkish club, while also moving higher on the club’s all-time scoring charts.
Ademola Lookman — €40m
Atletico Madrid attacker Ademola Lookman follows with a €40 million valuation.
The 28-year-old has continued to attract attention through his attacking ability, creativity and effectiveness in one-on-one situations. His performances for both club and country have helped maintain his position among Nigeria’s most valuable players.
Calvin Bassey — €28m
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey is valued at €28 million, making him the third Nigerian on the list.
Bassey’s ability to play at centre-back and left-back has increased his usefulness to coaches. His physical strength and pace have also made him an important defensive option for the Super Eagles.
Alex Iwobi — €20m
Experienced midfielder Alex Iwobi occupies fourth position at €20 million.
The Fulham player’s value reflects his years of experience in European football, versatility and continued involvement at international level.
Iwobi has also reached a notable personal milestone by becoming the Nigerian footballer with the most Premier League appearances.
Raphael Onyedika — €17m
Completing the top five is Raphael Onyedika, whose market value stands at €17 million.
The defensive midfielder moved from Belgian champions Club Brugge to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal that could reach €10 million when bonuses are included.
At 25, Onyedika has continued to develop into an important defensive midfield option and his performances in European football could influence his valuation in future transfer windows.
€170m in Nigerian football talent
The five players — Osimhen, Lookman, Bassey, Iwobi and Onyedika — have a combined estimated value of €170 million.
Their valuations highlight the continued presence of highly valued Nigerian players in European football, regardless of the national team’s recent setbacks.
