A 27-year-old woman is among four people arrested in an investigation into the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham, England, with detectives probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The woman is suspected of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. Three other suspects – a 25-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man and a 30-year-old man – are being investigated on suspicion of assisting an offender, BBC News reported.
The arrests were made at different locations. Police detained the first three suspects after stopping a vehicle in Radford, Nottingham, on Sunday evening, before arresting the fourth man in Bedfordshire in the early hours of Monday.
The case stems from a confrontation at a bus stop on Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday. The officer had approached two individuals when he was shot in the foot. Police recovered a firearm at the scene.
Nottinghamshire Police said the officer remains in hospital in a stable condition. Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden said the injuries were not life-threatening, although he described them as potentially life-altering.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said detectives were working to establish the full circumstances of the shooting. The police cordon that had been placed around Angel Row has been lifted.
