NUJ Condemns Alleged Assault Of Journalist, Seeks Investigation

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has called for action following the alleged assault of a journalist by an officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) at Yankari Game Reserve.

According to The Next Edition, the incident involved Bashir Adamu, a reporter with the Bauchi Radio Corporation, who the union said was attacked while attending an official engagement at the reserve. The incident occurred during the commissioning of a 500 kVA solar power station involving a delegation from the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The union alleged that the DSS officer, who was attached to the visiting delegation, slapped Adamu three times. It described the alleged action as unacceptable and urged the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and apply appropriate disciplinary measures if the officer is found responsible.

The NUJ also called on security agencies to respect journalists’ constitutional rights and allow them to perform their professional duties without intimidation or harassment. The union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its members, saying, “We will continue to protect our members from intimidation.”
