The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged outgoing corps members to look beyond paid employment and consider starting businesses that can create jobs for others.
The advice was given to members of the 2025 Batch C who are completing their mandatory one-year national service across the country.
In a farewell message released on Thursday by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the DG congratulated the corps members on successfully completing their service and praised their contributions to their host communities.
The NYSC chief said the corps members had demonstrated patriotism, resilience and commitment through their various assignments and community development projects, adding that their efforts had made a positive difference in the lives of many Nigerians.
As they prepare to leave the scheme, the outgoing corps members were encouraged to put the knowledge and experience gained during their service year to good use, particularly through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
The DG stressed that the skills acquired through the initiative could help them establish businesses, become self-reliant and provide employment opportunities for other young Nigerians.
He also encouraged them to remain open to new ideas, take advantage of available opportunities and see entrepreneurship as a way to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Beyond business and employment, the NYSC boss urged the graduates to maintain the values they had learned during their service year, including integrity, teamwork, efficiency, patriotism and self-reliance.
He said these principles should guide their decisions as they pursue their careers and take on leadership responsibilities in different sectors of society.
The DG further called on the outgoing corps members to remain committed to national unity and development, expressing hope that they would continue to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria after leaving the scheme.
He wished them success and fulfilment in their future endeavours, reminding them of their responsibility to the country with the words, “Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve.”
