Obi Takes Nigeria’s Rebuilding Message to UK, Faults Leadership Failures

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for accountable governance and equal opportunities for Nigerians, following meetings with British officials and members of the Nigerian diaspora in the United Kingdom.

Obi disclosed this in a post on his X account on Thursday, describing Wednesday’s engagements in London as part of efforts to discuss Nigeria’s development challenges and the need for national renewal.

He said he arrived in London from Basel, Switzerland, at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, before attending several meetings with stakeholders, culminating in an evening gathering organised by the Chief of COPDEM and the NDC Director of Diaspora Affairs.

According to Obi, the discussions focused on addressing corruption, poor leadership and the lack of accountability, which he said had continued to hinder Nigeria’s progress and limit access to essential services, including healthcare, education and decent employment.

He maintained that the country needed a system in which citizens could achieve their ambitions through hard work and merit rather than personal connections or privileged backgrounds.

“We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” Obi said.

The NDC candidate added that the country should work for all Nigerians rather than a privileged few, reiterating his belief in the possibility of building a new Nigeria.
