Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has dismissed reports of an emerging political coalition against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oshiomhole said APC governors remain committed to Tinubu’s re-election, while FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, despite remaining a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, has also repeatedly expressed support for the President.
Speaking on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines with Nifemi Oguntoye, Oshiomhole said disagreements among political actors should not automatically be interpreted as opposition to Tinubu’s 2027 ambition.
He maintained that he had seen no evidence suggesting that Wike or any APC governor was working against the President’s re-election. According to him, Wike had repeatedly made his position clear while acknowledging that he is not a member of the APC.
Oshiomhole also cited Wike’s appointment as FCT Minister as an example of Tinubu’s willingness to work across party lines, noting the minister’s role in overseeing development in the Federal Capital Territory.
The senator urged the APC to focus on highlighting the administration’s achievements and explaining its economic reforms to Nigerians rather than allowing political disagreements to dominate the 2027 conversation.
Addressing the economic reforms, Oshiomhole compared the condition of the economy inherited by the Tinubu administration to a patient battling advanced cancer, arguing that difficult measures were necessary to address the underlying problems.
He acknowledged that such reforms could produce painful short-term consequences but expressed confidence that the measures would eventually improve the economy.
Oshiomhole, who is seeking another term in the Senate for Edo North, maintained that political disagreements should not be mistaken for an organised effort against Tinubu, insisting that there is currently no coalition involving APC governors and Wike to oppose the President.
