Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns over possible violence and intimidation ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, appealing to US President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the poll.
Davido made the appeal in a post on his verified X account on Tuesday, as the state prepares for the election.
Addressing Trump directly, the singer said there were growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process ahead of the poll.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”
Davido also called on the United States and the international community to closely monitor the election and encourage relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that every vote is respected.
He further said, “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
