PDP, NDC, ADP, LP Beat INEC Deadline On Missing Candidates

Several political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Labour Party (LP), say they have complied with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline to correct omissions in its published list of candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The parties confirmed that they had addressed the discrepancies before the October 24 deadline set by the electoral commission, while INEC is expected to clarify the status of the affected candidates this week.

The omissions had raised concerns among the affected parties, particularly over the absence of some governorship and state House of Assembly candidates from the list released by the commission.

PDP National Organising Secretary, Captain Umar Bature (retd.), confirmed that the party completed the required corrections within the stipulated period.

“Yes, we met the deadline since,” Bature told Vanguard.

The PDP was among the parties affected by the omissions, with its governorship candidates in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, and Gombe State, Prof. Isa Pantami, reportedly missing from the published list, alongside seven House of Assembly candidates.

The NDC also confirmed compliance through its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who responded affirmatively when asked whether the party had met the deadline.

Similarly, ADP National Chairman, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, said his party had fulfilled the electoral commission’s requirement.

The Labour Party, on its part, maintained that it remained in good standing with INEC regarding the correction of names and replacement of candidates.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the party was confident about the participation of its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

“The Labour Party is in good standing with INEC, including on matters relating to the correction of names and replacement of candidates,” Asogwa said.

Other parties reported to have been affected by the omissions included the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

INEC had directed the affected parties to resolve the discrepancies by October 24, setting the deadline for the correction of names omitted from the published candidates’ list.

With the deadline now elapsed, attention has shifted to the commission’s clarification on the status of the affected candidates and whether the corrections will be reflected in its records ahead of the elections.
