Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover Cable Wires In Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations in Uyo, recovering a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and cable wires allegedly linked to theft.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare.

According to the statement, the suspected drug dealer, identified as Gideon David, was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. on October 14 along Aka Itiam Street, Uyo, following intelligence about alleged illicit drug sales in the area.

Police operatives reportedly recovered a large quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during a search of the suspect.

The police said David remained in custody as investigations continued to establish the extent of his alleged involvement and identify others who might be connected to the suspected drug trade.

In a separate operation earlier that day, detectives arrested another suspect, Godwin Paulinus, following a distress call reporting an alleged theft at a company located at Udoduoma, near Tropicana, Uyo.

The statement said the operatives recovered cable wires from a bag belonging to Paulinus after responding to the report at about 2:57 p.m.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and whether other persons were involved.

The arrests form part of the command’s ongoing operations targeting suspected drug networks, criminal activities and identified black spots across Akwa Ibom State.

Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the operational directives of the Inspector-General of Police and efforts to disrupt illicit drug distribution and other criminal activities.

He urged residents to report suspicious movements, drug-related activities and other suspected crimes to the nearest police station or through established police reporting channels.

The command assured the public that credible information would be handled confidentially and acted upon professionally, adding that investigations and operations to identify and apprehend other suspects were continuing.
