Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been released on bail after police questioned him over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Imo State Police Command spokesperson CSP Aniete Iniedu confirmed the arrest and release to Channels Television, saying the former governor was expected back at the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
Okorocha was arrested in Abuja on Monday night and questioned for about an hour before being granted bail, as investigations into the allegations continued.
His arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour previous police invitations relating to the case.
He had initially been scheduled to appear before investigators on September 2, but the date was shifted to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date.
