Police Renew Efforts To Rescue Abducted Niger Worshippers

The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up efforts to secure the release of worshippers abducted by suspected bandits in Niger State, as security agencies continue operations to locate the victims and ensure their safe return.

According to Channels Television, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said during a visit to the Niger State Police Command on Saturday that the police were sustaining pressure on the abductors while working with other security agencies to resolve the situation. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting residents in the face of the security challenges confronting the state.

The abductors reportedly stormed Dekara community and abducted an unidentified number of residents shortly after they had attended Friday prayers.

The abduction has deepened concerns in the community, as security authorities continue to gather intelligence and track the abductors. Disu also noted that insecurity affects more than the immediate safety of citizens, warning that attacks could affect businesses, livelihoods and economic activities.

The latest efforts follow President Bola Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to coordinate the rescue of victims abducted in the Niger State incident. The police said operations would continue until the victims are found and safely reunited with their families.
