Estranged husband of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko, has threatened legal action against bloggers and social media users spreading fabricated death reports and misleading stories about the actress, urging the public to give her space to recover.
Nwoko’s appeal came despite the highly publicised marital crisis between the former couple, which sparked widespread reactions and intense debate on social media earlier in the year.
In a statement, the senator called on Regina’s fans, friends, bloggers and social media commentators to exercise restraint, saying the actress had endured more than many people realised and needed compassion rather than public scrutiny.
“I make this appeal not just for her sake, but also for the sake of the kids, who are very well cared for and deserve to see their mother supported, loved and given every opportunity to get better,” he said.
Nwoko said Regina’s birthday video had offered the public a glimpse of some of the health challenges she had been dealing with, insisting that the situation required understanding and support.
“The video she shared on her birthday gave people a glimpse of some of the health challenges she has been dealing with. As someone who knows what she has been through, I can tell you that this is not a time to judge, vilify or add to her burdens,” he said.
The estranged husband said Regina’s well-being had remained a concern to him despite the difficulties in their relationship, adding that it was the concern that brought much of their private affairs into the public domain.
He expressed particular displeasure over the circulation of fabricated death announcements and other disturbing reports about the actress, describing them as harmful to her recovery.
“Regina sees many of these posts, and they are deeply distressing. They do nothing to support her recovery, rather, they add to the burden she is already carrying,” Nwoko said.
The senator urged Regina’s genuine supporters to discourage the circulation of such reports rather than amplify them for online engagement.
He also warned those deliberately spreading false information about the actress’s health and personal circumstances to desist, threatening to pursue them through the appropriate legal channels.
“Those hiding behind social media accounts to invent stories, mislead the public and exploit her situation for clicks and engagement should stop immediately,” he said.
Nwoko disclosed that the publications were being documented, adding that those found responsible would be held accountable.
“We are documenting these publications, and anyone found responsible will be held accountable through the appropriate legal channels,” he said.
He maintained that Regina deserved the opportunity to recover without being subjected to a fresh wave of fabricated stories daily, insisting that the public should show compassion and allow her to heal.
