Reps Order Probe Into Death Of Ex-AKSU SUG President At NYSC Camp

The House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into the death of Etimbuk Sunday, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who died at the Enugu State orientation camp, with lawmakers seeking to establish whether negligence or other misconduct occurred.

Sunday, a former Students’ Union Government president of Akwa Ibom State University, reportedly fell ill and visited the camp clinic on October 7 before dying on October 11.

According to Ebuka Exclusive Media, concerns surrounding the incident include an alleged delay in referring him to a hospital and reports that his body was returned to his family without clothing and with visible bruises.

The House has mandated its committees on Youth Development, Health Care Services, Police Affairs and Human Rights to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and submit their findings within four weeks.

The committees are expected to determine whether medical negligence or other wrongdoing occurred and identify those responsible if the allegations are established. The House also called for improved medical facilities and emergency response services at NYSC orientation camps nationwide.
