Popular media personality, Nedu, has raised concern over the social consequences of Nigeria’s rising cost of living, saying mounting financial pressure is pushing some people into hurting others, betraying trust and compromising values they once held firmly.

Nedu, speaking in a recent video, said the struggle for survival was no longer limited to unemployed Nigerians, as even people earning regular salaries were finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the cost of everyday life.

He listed school fees, house rent, food, transportation, fuel and healthcare among the expenses placing growing pressure on individuals and families, leaving many to constantly worry about how to meet their next financial obligation.

According to him, the more troubling consequence of the economic squeeze is the behaviour it can produce, with some people resorting to actions they would previously have considered unthinkable.

“People are doing things they never imagined they would do, hurting people, betraying people, cutting corners,” Nedu said.

He argued that some of such conduct should also be viewed against the backdrop of the difficult economic environment, stressing that extreme financial pressure could force people into desperate decisions.

The former OAP said Nigerians should be able to work and earn enough to live meaningful lives without being consumed by constant anxiety over basic necessities.

Nedu also called for an economy in which parents can provide for their children without living under persistent financial fear, saying Nigerians deserve a society where hard work offers a realistic path to a decent standard of living.
