The Federal Government has given the green light for the proposed construction of King Amachree Airport in Elem Ifoko, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The approval, issued by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, was conveyed in a letter dated October 26, 2026, to Prince Tonye T.J.T Princewill, Executive Director of Royal Fouche Services Limited, the company behind the project.

The development marks an important step towards establishing another airport in Rivers State, although the promoters must fulfil several regulatory and technical requirements before construction can proceed.

The ministry said its decision followed an application by Royal Fouche Services Limited and an inspection of the proposed site by a technical team between September 2 and 4, 2026.

As part of the conditions attached to the approval, the company must submit a detailed master plan showing how the airport will be developed, including its facilities and construction stages.

The developers are also required to obtain environmental clearance, including an Environmental Impact Assessment, meet all Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations and pay the necessary statutory charges.

Other requirements include technical assessments of the land covering its topography, soil conditions, drainage, weather patterns and possible obstacles that could affect aircraft operations.

The ministry stressed that the project would remain under technical supervision to ensure that all stages meet international aviation safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and relevant Nigerian regulations.

It also disclosed that the NCAA had received a copy of the approval letter and would work with the project promoters on the next steps.

Although the federal approval represents progress for the proposed King Amachree Airport, the project must still satisfy the outlined safety, environmental and aviation requirements before moving forward.
