Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has called for stronger action against the circulation of counterfeit and potentially harmful products in Nigeria, warning that unsuspecting consumers could be exposed to serious health dangers.
Kadiri made the call in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she appealed to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to intensify surveillance of products sold across the country. TVC News reported that the actress raised concerns about the safety of items ranging from food and drinks to medicines, cosmetics and household products.
She said the widespread presence of questionable products should be treated as a public health concern rather than merely a commercial issue. According to her, repeated exposure to contaminated or poorly produced goods could have severe consequences, particularly for children and other vulnerable consumers.
Kadiri also shared a personal experience involving garlic she had purchased and blended, saying she became alarmed after noticing a change in its colour when she briefly left it unattended. She further disclosed that concerns over the safety of packaged drinks had made her increasingly cautious about giving them to her children.
The actress urged NAFDAC to strengthen its monitoring and enforcement efforts, stressing that protecting consumers from unsafe products requires urgent attention. She expressed concern that the circulation of such products could be contributing to health problems among Nigerians and called for greater vigilance from both regulators and consumers.
