Tambuwal Demands Probe Of Alleged Attack On ADC Governorship Candidate’s Convoy

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called for an independent investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, warning against the use of security outfits to intimidate political opponents.

Tambuwal said those responsible for the reported incident, if found culpable, must be held accountable, stressing that security agencies had a duty to protect citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.

Dan’iya had alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard attacked his convoy around the Sokoto Airport on Friday, October 30, 2026, fired gunshots, damaged his vehicle and threatened his life.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement issued on Saturday through his media office, Tambuwal described the development as “deeply disturbing” and urged the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and impartially.

He also called on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that security formations operating under its authority discharged their responsibilities within the confines of the law.

The senator maintained that freedom of movement, political association and the right to seek elective office were constitutional rights that should not expose citizens to threats or harassment.

“No citizen should face threats, violence or harassment for exercising these rights,” he said.

Tambuwal cautioned political actors against violence, urging them to allow democratic competition to be determined by voters rather than intimidation.

“Let the people speak through their votes, not through arms,” he said.

He further warned that security agencies must not be deployed as instruments of political intimidation, insisting that their responsibility was to safeguard all citizens without discrimination.

Despite the reported incident, Tambuwal said the ADC would proceed with its scheduled presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto on November 4, declaring that the development would not discourage the party from participating in the political process.

“Let it be clear: no amount of intimidation or threats will deter us,” he declared.

He, however, appealed to ADC members and supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and continue to pursue their political activities peacefully.

Tambuwal said Sokoto and Nigeria belonged to all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations, adding that democratic participation must be guaranteed without fear.
