OBOT AKARA — The Akwa Ibom State Government has described the commissioning of a new Model Primary School in Obot Akara Local Government Area as a strategic investment in the children who will provide leadership for the state in the years ahead.
Former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, stated this while representing Governor Umo Eno at the commissioning of the school at Ibiakpan Ntan, as part of activities marking Akwa Ibom State’s 39th anniversary.
“This is how to be a governor. This is how to plan for the future of the youth of this state,” Uko declared, commending Eno for prioritising education and modernising basic education infrastructure across the state.
The facility, located along Ikpe Mbak Eyop–Umuahia Road, is equipped with modern learning facilities aimed at providing pupils and teachers with a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for teaching and learning.
Uko said the project demonstrated the administration’s commitment to ensuring that children in rural communities were not denied access to quality educational infrastructure because of their location.
The former commissioner, who disclosed that he attended Primary Six at the same school in 1980, recalled the condition of the facility at the time, noting that pupils had no access to computers or comparable modern learning resources.
He said the transformation was a clear indication of the distance covered in basic education infrastructure, expressing confidence that the school would nurture children capable of becoming future governors, lawmakers, doctors and other professionals.
Uko further disclosed that Obot Akara had received two Model Primary Schools within the year, making it the only local government to have benefited from two such projects so far, with more interventions expected.
The project forms part of Governor Eno’s wider education reform under the ARISE Agenda, particularly the human capital development component, which seeks to provide children with the knowledge and skills required to contribute meaningfully to the state’s future.
The development also received political backing from the former Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area and first elected female chairman of the council, Mrs Agnes Udo-Inyang, who said the people had seen the impact of the Eno administration in education, healthcare and other sectors.
Udo-Inyang, speaking on behalf of women in the area, pledged that they would mobilise massively in 2027 to support President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other APC candidates.
Uko commended the Commissioner for Education and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful completion of the project, while urging the community to protect the facility and make it a lasting investment in the education and future of its children.
