President Bola Tinubu has called for peace, unity and harmonious coexistence in Nigeria, saying his prayers during his latest Umrah pilgrimage extended beyond personal spiritual fulfilment to the well-being of the country and its citizens.
The President, who spoke in a video shared on his official social media page, said he prayed for Nigerians to live in harmony and happiness, with a stronger commitment to faith in God.
“We just pray for our nation; we pray for everyone to be well, to live in harmony, happiness and faith in God Almighty,” he said.
Tinubu described the pilgrimage as a deeply fulfilling spiritual experience, expressing gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to undertake the religious exercise.
“I feel good, I feel fulfilled. It’s a spiritual thing for me in a country, Nigeria. I am grateful to Allah,” the President said.
His latest pilgrimage has also attracted attention because of its timing, coming as Nigeria approaches another election cycle, just as he undertook a similar spiritual journey ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Reflecting on the significance of returning to the holy pilgrimage at this stage of his political journey, Tinubu described the experience as “very, very significant.”
He said the love of the people, commitment to public responsibilities and devotion to Allah’s will were important considerations in his understanding of leadership and public service.
“I believe the love of the people, commitment to the job, indivisible commitment to Allah’s wish and His word must prevail,” he said.
The President also emphasised his belief that human ambitions and political aspirations remained subject to the authority of God, whom he described as the ultimate determinant of human destiny.
“There is no other God but Allah. He is the only one who can define a human being, what he will be and what he will become,” he said.
His comments offered a glimpse into his personal reflections on faith, leadership and the place of divine guidance in the affairs of individuals and the nation.
