Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday took their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the streets of Sokoto, chanting “Tinubu Must Go” during the party’s presidential campaign flag-off ahead of the 2027 general elections.” during the party’s presidential campaign flag-off ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally, held along Illorin Road in Sokoto metropolis, attracted a large gathering of party supporters, many of whom reportedly travelled from different parts of the state to show their support for the opposition party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The repeated chant of “Tinubu Must Go” became the major highlight of the gathering, with supporters using the occasion to express their desire for a change of government in the next general election.
Some of the issues driving the protesters’ opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) include the country’s economic difficulties and growing concerns over insecurity in several parts of Nigeria.
The turnout was also seen as part of the ADC’s efforts to expand its grassroots influence in Sokoto and build momentum for its nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party’s supporters used the gathering to call on Nigerians to reject the APC at the ballot box, insisting that the country needs a different political direction.
However, the ADC’s presidential campaign team, led by Atiku, had yet to arrive at the rally venue as of the time this report was filed.
The campaign team was reportedly delayed by the massive crowd that gathered along the route from Sultan Abubakar III International Airport to the rally ground.
The Sokoto event marks another major mobilisation effort by the opposition party as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
