Tinubu Sets Higher Expectations For Seyi, Says City Boy Mobilisation Is Just The Beginning

President Bola Tinubu has challenged his son, Seyi Tinubu, to deepen his youth mobilisation efforts, declaring that his work with the City Boy Movement is only the beginning of what he expects him to achieve in service to the country.

Tinubu gave the charge on Monday at an event organised by the movement, where he publicly commended Seyi for engaging young Nigerians without seeking an official title or political office.

The President, who spoke directly to his son, said Seyi’s activities had prompted questions about whether he was preparing to contest for political office.

“I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.

He, however, used the moment to shift attention from speculation about his son’s political ambitions to the responsibilities he believes should accompany public engagement.

According to the President, Seyi and his colleagues had demonstrated commitment by taking their message to young people, listening to their concerns and organising them without demanding formal positions.

“I am proud of all of you,” he said, acknowledging the group’s efforts and assuring its members of his support.

But the presidential commendation came with a clear warning against complacency. Tinubu told his son that the work done so far should not be treated as an accomplishment sufficient to end the journey.

“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more. Go further. Serve harder,” the President said.

He also urged Seyi to build a record of service that would provide a worthy example for the next generation, including his own children.

“Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” Tinubu added.

The President further described service to Nigeria as an honour, saying the conduct of young people involved in public affairs would be closely watched.

“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.

Seyi Tinubu serves as patron of the City Boy Movement, a youth-focused organisation that mobilises support for the President and his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The group has pursued grassroots engagement and activities aimed at drawing young people into political mobilisation and public affairs.

Tinubu’s remarks come as Seyi’s growing visibility through the movement continues to attract public attention, particularly over the political implications of his activities.

While the President did not announce any political ambition for his son, his public endorsement of the movement’s work and call for greater commitment have added to the attention surrounding Seyi’s role in the administration’s support network.
