Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Make Charity A Daily Responsibility

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has challenged Nigerians to move charity beyond speeches and commemorative events, calling for practical acts of kindness that directly improve the lives of vulnerable people.

Marking the 2026 International Day of Charity, Tinubu said genuine compassion should be reflected in everyday actions, from supporting people facing hardship to volunteering time and resources for the benefit of communities.

She noted that acts of generosity, regardless of their size, could restore hope to people struggling with poverty and difficult circumstances, while also fostering stronger bonds within society.

According to her, charity should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of government, wealthy individuals or charitable organisations, but as a shared obligation requiring the participation of ordinary citizens.

The First Lady’s appeal comes against the backdrop of ongoing social intervention efforts, including the National Community Food Bank Programme, which targets pregnant women, nursing mothers and children below six years, alongside assistance for victims of the Calabar Mall fire and women’s groups in Calabar.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to make compassion a sustained part of their lives, stressing that a society becomes stronger when people are willing to recognise the needs of others and respond to them with tangible support.
