High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has mourned former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, recalling his contributions to efforts to reduce militancy and promote stability in the Niger Delta.
Tompolo said Uduaghan played an important role during a period of heightened insecurity in the oil-producing region, particularly through his support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme and pipeline surveillance arrangements introduced during the administrations of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited expressed his condolences following the death of the former governor on Monday, October 19, 2026.
In a condolence message issued through his media consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo described the news as unexpected and painful.
He recalled Uduaghan’s involvement in initiatives aimed at addressing militancy and improving security in the Niger Delta during his tenure as governor from 2007 to 2015.
According to the statement, Uduaghan supported the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the pipeline surveillance framework, both of which featured prominently in efforts to address insecurity and protect oil infrastructure in the region.
Tompolo’s tribute focused on the former governor’s role in those interventions, which formed part of wider attempts by the Federal Government and regional stakeholders to address the Niger Delta crisis.
The former governor’s death has drawn condolences from political and other public figures, with tributes highlighting his years in office and his involvement in the region’s political and security affairs.
