US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose severe economic measures on countries that continue providing financial or other forms of support to Iran.
According to Reuters, Trump warned in a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday that countries providing support to Iran could face severe economic consequences.
He said countries whose financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies provide assistance to Iran could face what he described as “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”
The warning comes as Washington continues to escalate pressure on Iran during the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Trump’s latest threat signals a further expansion of his administration’s efforts to restrict Iran economically and restrict its access to international financial and commercial networks.
The conflict has also affected commercial activity across parts of the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a major passage for global oil shipments.
Concerns over possible interruptions along the waterway have contributed to instability in international energy markets, with traders closely monitoring developments in the region.
The situation has raised concerns among countries and businesses that maintain economic ties with Iran, particularly those with commercial interests or energy-related dealings with the country.
Washington’s warning could therefore increase pressure on governments and companies that continue to trade with Iran, possibly widening the economic impact of the conflict beyond the countries directly involved.
