The United States has stepped up military cooperation with Nigeria, training Nigerian troops in unmanned aircraft systems, combat casualty care and other specialised operational skills in Bauchi State.

The training is being conducted at a US military operating location in the state as part of a broader security partnership aimed at strengthening the capability and operational readiness of Nigerian forces.

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which disclosed the development on Monday, said the programme covers Combat Lifesaver and Tactical Combat Casualty Care, weapons familiarisation, camouflage, water treatment and testing, explosive ordnance disposal and small-unit tactics.

It added that unmanned aircraft systems were also included in the training, with the areas of instruction selected based on the expertise of US personnel and operational needs identified by their Nigerian counterparts.

The initiative is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s military capacity while improving the ability of its troops to respond to security challenges, particularly through enhanced battlefield medical care, tactical skills and the use of emerging technologies.
