Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken another swipe at Senator Ireti Kingibe, declaring that she should not expect to retain her seat in the National Assembly when Nigerians head to the polls in 2027.

Wike made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of a project in Abuja, where he suggested that residents of the Federal Capital Territory had lost confidence in the senator and were ready to replace her at the next election.

In a mocking tone, the minister urged FCT residents to bid Kingibe farewell rather than insult her, saying the message to the lawmaker should simply be that her time in the Senate is over.

According to Wike, the people have already made up their minds about the senator’s political future, insisting that she would not secure another term in 2027.

The minister also questioned Kingibe’s performance since she was elected in 2023 under the Labour Party, accusing her of failing to attract meaningful development projects to the FCT.

He alleged that instead of working with him to address the developmental needs of Abuja, the senator had focused more on engaging in public disagreements through television appearances and social media.

Wike and Kingibe have been involved in a prolonged political disagreement since 2023, with their differences largely revolving around the administration and development of the Federal Capital Territory.

Kingibe, who has since moved from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has yet to publicly respond to Wike’s latest comments.

The exchange adds another dimension to the growing political tension in the FCT as politicians begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
