Tinubu’s NYSC Dispute: Defence Asks Court To Dismiss Atiku’s Suit

President Bola Tinubu’s defence team has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) challenging his eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The suit raises questions over Tinubu’s qualification for the election, including allegations concerning his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records.

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Akin Olujinmi, SAN, who is representing Tinubu, argued that the plaintiffs had not presented sufficient evidence from the NYSC to support their allegation that a forged discharge certificate was used in documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The defence also challenged Atiku’s standing to question the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination process, noting that he was neither a member of the party nor a participant in its presidential primary.

The allegations against Tinubu remain before the court and have not been judicially established.

The Federal High Court is expected to continue proceedings in the case on September 28, 2026.
