Labour Party governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Akparawa Michael Bush, has pledged to construct 1,000 low-cost housing units in each of the state’s 31 local government areas if elected in the 2027 governorship election.

According to The Sun, Bush made the promise while speaking on a live programme on XL 106.9 FM in Uyo, where he outlined an eight-point development plan centred on housing, social welfare, security, electricity and inclusive governance.

According to the candidate, his proposed administration would also prioritise the welfare of elderly citizens through the establishment of education, employment and relaxation centres, while ensuring that ongoing projects inherited from previous administrations are completed rather than abandoned.

He further promised immediate payment of pensions and gratuities to retiring civil servants, as well as measures aimed at reducing the tax burden on residents. Bush said his government would introduce subsidies in some areas of the economy to help residents cope with current economic pressures.

On security, the Labour Party candidate said traditional rulers, village heads and youth leaders would be involved in addressing insecurity, particularly in rural communities. He also pledged to pursue improved electricity supply across the state.

Bush said the proposed agenda would operate under an acronym drawn from the name “AKWA IBOM”, representing Access, Knowledge, Wealth, Advancement, Industrialisation, Business, Opportunities and Manpower.

He said the proposed agenda was designed to create a government focused on the needs of residents across different age groups and backgrounds.

“Akwa Ibom people deserve a government that listens, delivers, and appreciates its citizens. That is the kind of leadership I am offering in 2027,” he said.
