A Flydubai flight heading from Dubai to Israel was diverted to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after an altercation reportedly broke out between the pilots while the aircraft was in the air.

BBC Pidgin reported that Flight FZ1073, carrying about 150 passengers, was travelling to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv when the incident occurred, prompting the crew to declare an emergency and divert to Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

Israeli officials cited by local media said the confrontation involved the captain and co-pilot. Flight-tracking data also showed that the aircraft transmitted an emergency code about two hours after departing Dubai before briefly switching to a code associated with a hijacking situation.

The aircraft later returned to the general emergency signal before landing safely in Tabuk. Israeli officials said the situation was brought under control and that the passengers were safe.

The two pilots were reportedly taken to hospital after the aircraft landed, while arrangements were being made to return the Israeli passengers to Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said efforts were ongoing to facilitate the passengers’ return as authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
