FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has fixed January 17, 2027, as the date he would announce his resignation if President Bola Tinubu loses the presidential election in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while addressing leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, where he also spoke about the political alliance being formed ahead of the 2027 elections.
The minister said his continued stay in office would depend on his ability to deliver electoral support for the president in the areas under consideration.
“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said, according to Legit.ng, which reported the remarks.
Wike also disclosed plans for a cross-party political coalition in the FCT to support Tinubu in the presidential contest and candidates seeking legislative seats.
He specifically endorsed Senator Philip Aduda for the Senate, as well as two House of Representatives candidates whom he identified as former Area Council chairmen.
According to Wike, the coalition has reached an agreement on its political direction and is seeking coordinated support for its candidates across the FCT.
The former Rivers State governor reiterated that he would quit as FCT minister if Tinubu fails to win both Rivers State and the capital territory, linking his political responsibility to the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
