World Teachers’ Day: Akwa Ibom PDP Calls for Better Incentives, Role in Education Policy

UYO — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has called for stronger protection, improved incentives and greater involvement of teachers in the formulation and implementation of education policies.

The party made the call in a statement issued to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, while acknowledging the contributions of teachers to the development of Akwa Ibom State and the wider society.

The PDP said teachers had over the years played a critical role in shaping the physical, mental, moral, social, religious and intellectual development of children, describing their contribution to nation-building as immeasurable.

According to the party, the theme of this year’s celebration, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” underscores the need to give the teaching profession the attention and support it deserves.

It argued that teachers should not only be beneficiaries of education policies but should also be involved in planning, developing and implementing policies and programmes affecting the sector.

The party said better incentives and working conditions would motivate teachers to perform their duties more effectively and contribute further to improving educational outcomes.

The PDP, which said it was “deeply rooted in democratic principles,” stressed that teachers should have a voice in the overall administration and development of the education sector.

It said the occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate teachers’ achievements while drawing attention to the challenges confronting the profession.

The party also commended teachers across Akwa Ibom for their dedication and selflessness, noting that their efforts often extend beyond what can be adequately acknowledged by parents and society.

It expressed appreciation to teachers on behalf of parents who may not always have the opportunity to personally acknowledge their contributions to the upbringing and education of their children.

The PDP urged stakeholders in the education sector to continue supporting teachers and creating an environment in which they can effectively discharge their responsibilities.

It wished teachers across the state and beyond a happy World Teachers’ Day celebration, reaffirming its solidarity with the profession.
