Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger commitment to the teaching profession, urging authorities and the public to do more to improve teachers’ working conditions and professional standing.
According to The Sun, the First Lady made the appeal in her message to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day on Monday, using the occasion to highlight the role educators play in preparing young people for the future.
She said the influence of teachers extends beyond academic instruction, noting that educators help shape the values, aspirations and abilities of generations that will eventually drive national development.
The First Lady urged policymakers and other stakeholders to sustain measures that would strengthen the profession and provide teachers with better welfare and recognition.
She also praised teachers across the country for their dedication, describing their work as essential to building a stronger society. She wished educators a happy World Teachers’ Day and encouraged continued efforts to protect and advance the profession.
