The Arewa Revival Project has linked its support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid to federal government investments in irrigation infrastructure in Kano State, citing the potential benefits for agriculture and food production.
Punch reported that the group’s Project Coordinator, Muttaka Ibrahim, said in a statement on Thursday that ongoing interventions at Tiga, Challawa Gorge and Kafin Chiri dams were aimed at expanding irrigation facilities and improving access to farmland.
At Kafin Chiri Dam, the planned works are expected to provide irrigation facilities for 164.91 hectares across the Kunpada, Matanfa and Maida sectors. The intervention at Challawa Gorge Dam covers 240 hectares, with works involving water distribution channels, access roads and other infrastructure.
The programme at Tiga Dam is expected to extend irrigation services to about 875 hectares in Yakasai, Gwamma and Gurjiya. The group also highlighted the dam’s existing capacity to support large-scale irrigation and generate hydropower.
The Arewa Revival Project called for accountability in the execution of the projects, alongside adequate maintenance and community participation. It said sustaining development initiatives and completing ongoing interventions would be important to delivering their intended benefits, as it declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
