Prospective university and other tertiary institution applicants may begin their admission processes in September 2027 if the Federal Government’s proposed schedule for major national examinations is implemented.
The plan places the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), between March 15 and 25, with results expected before the end of the month.
According to The Sun, the proposed calendar was considered at a meeting involving the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and representatives of Nigeria’s examination bodies in Abuja. The discussions focused on aligning examination schedules and ensuring that candidates receive their results early enough to pursue further education.
The timetable allocates April 1 to May 14 for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination and May 11 to June 18 for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination. NABTEB is scheduled for June 1 to July 5, while NBAIS is expected to conduct its examination from June 10 to July 9.
The government is proposing August as the release window for results from NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS. The schedule is being pursued under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which seeks to improve the coordination of examinations and the administration of the education sector.
