Afrobeats star Davido has declared that he has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 election, distancing his personal political position from that of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
Speaking in a recent interview with Political Affairs Inl, Davido acknowledged his uncle’s decision to support Tinubu but said he had yet to commit himself to any presidential candidate.
“Yes, my uncle came out to announce that he’ll support President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu next year. But as for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody yet. Right now, I don’t have any presidential candidate,” the singer said.
His clarification comes amid online controversy following Adeleke’s appearance at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, where the governor declared support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and indicated that he would coordinate the president’s campaign in Osun State.
The governor’s declaration had drawn criticism from social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), who questioned the political positions of both Adeleke and Davido.
VDM accused the singer of emotionally influencing his fans with anti-APC posts during his uncle’s governorship campaign, arguing that Adeleke’s latest political alignment raised questions about the political messaging previously associated with the singer.
The controversy intensified after Davido simply liked VDM’s viral post criticising him and his uncle, an action that attracted attention from social media users.
However, the singer’s latest comments provide a clearer account of his stated position on the 2027 presidential election: while acknowledging his uncle’s support for Tinubu, he says he has not chosen a candidate of his own.
Adeleke contested the Osun governorship election under the Accord Party. His subsequent declaration of support for Tinubu has generated discussion about his political alignment ahead of the next election cycle.
Davido’s comments also distinguish the governor’s political decision from his own, indicating that the family relationship does not necessarily translate into a shared presidential preference.
The singer did not endorse any alternative candidate in the interview, maintaining that he had yet to decide whom to support in the 2027 presidential election.
