First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has defended the administration of President Bola Tinubu, arguing that Nigerians who do not acknowledge the country’s progress may need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses” to appreciate ongoing changes.
She made the comment on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots political organisation mobilising support for the President’s re-election in 2027.
According to the First Lady, developments across the country indicate that progress is being made, despite criticisms from those who believe the administration has yet to deliver meaningful improvements.
Mrs Tinubu drew attention to changes at Nigerian airports, citing them as an example of the developments she believes are taking place under her husband’s leadership.
She expressed optimism about improvements in the aviation sector, noting that she looked forward to travelling more conveniently as airport facilities continued to change.
Her reference to “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses” was linked to the Jigi-Bola eye-care programme, an initiative introduced by her husband in 2001 during his tenure as Lagos State governor. The programme provided services such as eye examinations, free glasses and surgery before it was relaunched by the Lagos State Government in 2021.
The First Lady also spoke about her hopes for Nigeria beyond the current administration, saying she wanted to leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoy a better country as a woman in her seventies.
She said her aspiration was to experience a Nigeria where the progress being discussed today would translate into a more enjoyable future for its citizens.
Mrs Tinubu subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters, formally declaring it open in anticipation of the President’s 2027 re-election campaign.
She also reaffirmed her support for the All Progressives Congress and the movement’s activities, including those associated with its convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
The event forms part of the political mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election, as supporters of the President begin strengthening grassroots structures to advance his bid for another term in office.
