A 40-year-old man, Samson Ekata, has allegedly confessed to killing his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend in Uromi, Edo State, claiming that a voice in his head influenced his actions.

The suspect was arrested by the Edo State Police Command over the alleged killing and mutilation of the victim, who was reportedly eight months pregnant.

The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed this on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, while parading Ekata and other suspects arrested for various offences.

According to the police commissioner, the victim had lived with Ekata for about a year before the incident. The suspect allegedly killed her, severed one of her breasts and attempted to remove her unborn child.

During questioning by journalists, Ekata admitted killing the woman but attributed his actions to what he described as spiritual influence. He also claimed that it was his first murder.
