Jay-Z Set For Super Bowl Debut After Years Behind Halftime Show

American rap star Jay-Z is set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time, marking a major shift for the music mogul who has helped select and produce the event’s performers since 2019.

The National Football League (NFL) announced that Jay-Z would take the stage at Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, near Los Angeles, after years of influencing the globally watched musical event through his entertainment company, Roc Nation.

The BBC reported that the rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, will follow recent halftime performers including Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Usher, Rihanna and The Weeknd.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had long hoped Jay-Z would eventually perform at the championship game, revealing that his original request when the league partnered with Roc Nation was for the rapper to take the stage whenever he felt the time was right.

Jay-Z’s announcement comes as he celebrates 30 years since the release of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. He recently performed two shows at the Los Angeles stadium scheduled to host the Super Bowl, as part of the anniversary celebrations.

Reflecting on the journey, the rapper described the opportunity to perform at the event as a dream come true, linking his early musical career to the prospect of appearing on one of the world’s biggest entertainment stages.

His involvement also raises expectations about possible guest performers, with his wife, global music star Beyoncé, already attracting attention as a potential surprise guest, although no such appearance has been confirmed.

Since Roc Nation began producing the halftime show in 2019, Jay-Z has played a significant role in shaping its musical direction and bringing major artists to the Super Bowl stage.

The performance has become a major attraction beyond American football, drawing international audiences and providing artists with a platform for reaching millions of viewers worldwide.

Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 halftime performance set a record for the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show and earned an Emmy Award for outstanding music direction, underscoring the growing importance of the event in global entertainment.

Jay-Z’s career achievements include 25 Grammy Awards, becoming the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

His upcoming appearance will bring together his influence as a recording artist and his behind-the-scenes role in one of the world’s most prominent sporting entertainment productions.
