The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to review complaints from politicians left out of its final list of candidates for the February 2027 governorship elections.
Among those seeking a review are Isa Ali Pantami of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Ladi Adebutu of the PDP in Ogun State, and Aminu Gwarzo of the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State.
The affected politicians are hoping the electoral body will reconsider its decision and give them another opportunity to contest in the forthcoming elections.
INEC had earlier attributed the exclusions to the failure of the political parties involved to submit their membership registers in line with legal requirements.
The PDP is optimistic that the commission could reverse its decision, while Adebutu has raised questions about the circumstances that led to his name being omitted from the final list.
The commission is expected to deliberate on the complaints at its meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 29. However, no official decision had been announced at the time of this report.
With the governorship elections fixed for February 6, 2027, the outcome of the meeting could have significant implications for the affected candidates and their parties as preparations for the polls continue.
