Funke Akindele’s forthcoming movie, The Four, will feature in a Facebook-backed initiative connecting Nigerian filmmaking with audiences and content creators in the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
According to TVC News, the arrangement will cover the film’s London world premiere and a subsequent homecoming event in Lagos. Both gatherings are expected to provide opportunities for creators in Nigeria and the diaspora to participate in activities celebrating Nigerian cinema.
Beyond the screenings, the collaboration will draw attention to how digital platforms can help filmmakers and other creatives distribute original material, interact with followers and generate income from their content.
Meta’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Oluwasola Obagbemi, said Facebook provides creators with avenues to build audiences beyond their immediate locations, establish communities and earn from original work.
Akindele welcomed the partnership, saying African filmmakers had stories that deserved broader international exposure. She expressed enthusiasm about working with Facebook to introduce more audiences to African cinema.
Content from the two premiere events, including behind-the-scenes footage, will be shared on the Facebook pages of Meta Africa, Akindele and Fanntv. The programme will also feature a dedicated space hosted by creators to explore ways of using Facebook to reach younger audiences and promote Nigerian stories.
The collaboration adds a digital distribution and audience-engagement dimension to the promotion of The Four, placing the film within a wider effort to connect Nigerian entertainment with viewers outside the country.
