Oborevwori Visits Oil Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has visited Uzere community in Isoko South Local Government Area following an oil spill and gas leak that have raised concerns about the safety and wellbeing of residents.
The governor inspected the affected locations on Friday, accompanied by the Commissioners for Oil and Gas and Environment, to assess the situation and understand the impact on the community.
During the visit, he met with community representatives and officials of the operating oil company, stressing that the company must take responsibility for the incident and address the concerns of those affected.
Oborevwori said his administration would ensure that the company carries out the necessary clean-up and environmental restoration, adding that the ongoing clean-up exercise must be followed by proper remediation.
He also directed the Commissioner for Health to arrange medical support for residents of Uzere, similar to the intervention previously carried out in Odidi, where more than 100 medical personnel were deployed to attend to residents.
The governor commended the people of Uzere for remaining peaceful despite the situation and assured them that their concerns were receiving attention.
Addressing complaints about the time taken to respond to the incident, Oborevwori explained that the delay should not be mistaken for a refusal to assist the community.
He maintained that his government would continue to engage the relevant stakeholders until the oil company meets its obligations and residents receive the necessary support.
