The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has received an award from the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) for her contributions to public health and improvements in the country’s regulatory system.
The recognition, which came in the form of an Award of Excellent Performance, was presented during a breakfast meeting organised by NACCIMA at Providence Hotel in Lagos.
The event brought together business executives, members of the association and other representatives of the organised private sector to discuss regulatory issues affecting businesses and consumers.
Speaking at the gathering, Adeyeye explained that NAFDAC was working to make its regulatory procedures more transparent, efficient and science-based.
She maintained that the agency’s responsibility goes beyond enforcing standards, stressing the need to protect consumers without creating unnecessary difficulties for businesses operating within the law.
Business representatives at the meeting praised her leadership, particularly the agency’s efforts to tackle counterfeit and substandard medicines in the Nigerian market.
They also acknowledged NAFDAC’s contribution to ensuring that food, drugs and other regulated products meet acceptable safety and quality requirements.
NACCIMA said the award was a recognition of Adeyeye’s performance and her role in strengthening regulation, supporting industry development and protecting Nigerians from dangerous products.
The honour comes as Nigeria continues to battle the circulation of fake and substandard medicines, which pose serious risks to public health and undermine confidence in the pharmaceutical industry.
NAFDAC is responsible for regulating the production, importation, distribution, sale and use of food, medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, packaged water, chemicals and other products in the country.
